We would recommend to stay away from the solar powered black plastic box on the market that has illuminated address numbers from inside the unit. The thin film of the solar cell on the face of the unit became warped after a day of being exposed to the summer sun. This is not something you would want to happen to a product that is supposed to be under the sun all day! the black color of the unit attracts more heat than any other color which causes this damage. We have not tested any other colors though.

The verdict is in – material (as well as the color of that material) is important when it comes to solar powered objects. There are a few favorites of ours: the STAINLESS STEEL solar powered address numbers and the SOLID ALUMINUM solar powered address numbers. They are bright, have a great contemporary look, and they really do the job! The hidden attachment on the back of this solar light further protects it from curious thieves. They are a bit pricey but will last for quite a long time. Just don’t forget to change your batteries if they go out.

Solar Motion Sensor Lights have some obvious benefits as any other solar light: easy installation, LED light which will last a lifetime… In addition, solar motion lights can be placed anywhere under the roof of your house and not necessarily in a sunny spot, as other solar lights are required to be placed. The actual solar cell in these lights is designed as a separate unit and connected to the lights by a wire. So, only the solar cell box itself has to be placed under direct sunlight in order to collect the free energy into batteries. The solar motion sensor lightwill start working only when it gets dark. Once motion is detected, the light turns on for only a few seconds at a time (between 5 and 30 seconds, as determined with a dial on each light unit), which allows it to store power for a much longer time without daily charging. Therefore, you do not need to have your panel under direct sun everyday. Solar motion sensor lights work perfectly in northern states where sunlight is less abundant than in southern parts of the country.

In addition, because of the ability to store more energy, solar motion sensor lights are much brighter because they usually use on average 35+ LEDs, as opposed to 1 or 2 LEDs as with your typical pathway solar light.

Most wall mounted solar lights on the market are designed with 1 or 2 LEDs and are not as bright as regular electric lights would be.

One of the brightest solar wall mounted lights on the market that we found was the stainless steel wall mounted light which we will review on this page.

This wall mounted solar light has an appealing contemporary design, allowing it to be placed on a wall as well as above your house or garden steps. The 1 LED light is much brighter than we had expected. The brightness is created by the design of the light itself concentrating and directing the light into one area on a wall. It does make a big difference when you place two of the lights next to each other as well.

We highly recommend this light for your contemporary style house. But try to choose the sunniest wall for their location. These lights need to be fully charged for at least 8 hours under full sunlight. They do store energy well and will shine even after a couple of cloudy days in winter. The manufacturer states that “the solar cell on the fixture is strong enough to obtain the charge even on a cloudy day.”

The stainless steel body of these solar lights also makes them more durable. These solar lights also did not have any problems with moisture penetration after weeks of rain.

We do recommend these lights as an additional light source for residential and light commercial buildings’ outside illumination.
